Chawngte

Located to the south-west of the Lawngtlai District, Chawngte is a small village in the state of Mizoram. Chawngte is located about 250 km from the capital city of Aizawl. Ngengpui Wildlife Sanctuary is located close to the Indo-Myanmar border and Indo-Bangladesh border in south western Mizoram. The sanctuary covers an area of 110 sq kms. The sanctuary is managed by Range Officer with headquarter at Ngengpui and 5 Beat Officers. Ngengpui Wildlife Sanctuary covers an area of 110 sq km. The altitude of the sanctuary ranges from 200 m to about 1200 m above the sea level.

The sanctuary is rich in biodiversity. It is home to varied flora and fauna. The forest type of the sanctuary is virgin sub tropical, evergreen and semi evergreen. Birds found in the sanctuary are hornbill, pen pheasant, tragopans, flower peckers, sun bird and the thrush family.

The sanctuary is home to a rich variety of wild animals like tigers, clouded leopard, guar, barking deer, sambar, elephants, wild boars, hoolock gibbon, rhesus, macaque, leaf monkey, common langur, bears, monkeys, and deer. The best time to travel to the sanctuary is from October to March.

Lohawka Wildlife Sanctuary

Lohawka Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at Lawngtlai district in Mizoram. The sanctuary is rich in varied flora and fauna. It covers an area of 75.50 sq kms. The forest type existing in the sanctuary consists of tropical evergreen and tropical semi evergreen forests. The sanctuary is the home to many medicinal plants.

The Lohawka Wildlife Sanctuary is rich in biodiversity. It is home to varied flora and fauna. The sanctuary is home to different variety of birds.  Tourists and bird lovers can spot many birds in the sanctuary. The sanctuary is home to a rich variety of wild animals which includes leopard, sambar, rhesus macaque, barking deer, slow loris and binturong.

Phawngpui National Park is located in the Lawngtlai district in Mizoram. The park is about 300 km from Aizawl. Phawngpui National Park is also known as the Phawngpui Blue Mountain National Park. The park encompasses the entire mountain and the surrounding reserve forest.The park is rich in natural beauty and in varied for and fauna.

There are wonderful range of birds found in the park which includes the rare Blyth's tragopan, sunbirds, falcon, dark-rumped swift and Mrs. Hume's pheasant-the state bird of Mizoram. Also some rare animals that can be seen here are slow loris, the mountain goat, leopard cat, tiger, , leopard, goral, serow, stump-tailed macaque, Asiatic black bear and capped langur. The National Park is also the natural habitat of variety of grasses. The best time to travel to the sanctuary is from October to March.

Sinemon Wildlife Sanctuary

Sinemon Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at Lawngtlai district in extreme southern part of Mizoram. It is home to varied flora and fauna. Sinemon Wildlife Sanctuary is an important place of Mizoram tourism. It covers an area of 143 sq kms.

The Sinemon Wildlife Sanctuary is rich in biodiversity. It is home to varied flora and fauna. In the sanctuary a large variety of birds could also be spotted. Bird watching could be an important activity in the sanctuary for the tourists. The sanctuary is home to a wide variety of wild animals. Animals like tigers, barking deer, sambar, elephants, wild boars, hoolock gibbon, leopard, slow loris, binturong etc form the part of the sanctuary.
